| How much is a Billion |
How much is a billion? Well it's a lot, a very very lot. Perhaps it is too much to wrap your mind around. But it is not, it is just a simple number let us look at it in terms of seconds. So ask how long a time is a billion seconds? Well to start with a few premises, a second is 1 second, a minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 3600 seconds, and day is 86,400 seconds. Then we need to know how long a year is, and I have found that an astrological year is precisely : 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46.9 seconds. So the rest is simple math, 365 days is 31,536,000 seconds, 5 hours is 18000 seconds, 48 minutes is 2880 seconds, 46.9 seconds is 46.9 seconds. Now add all of that together and a year is 31,556,926.9 seconds. Now at 31,556,926.9 seconds in a year, a little simple division shows that a billion seconds takes 31.68876371 years. And this is 31 years, 251 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes, and 26 seconds.
