This would be shoes for the most part, remember we are living in Europe after the fading out of Rome. Sandels were no longer worn nor did people runn around barefoot.
Shoes of various types were worn to protect the feet
Gillies are great, they are like a piece of leather patterned around the foot and cut with loops so you can tie them around the foot. They can be made with a couple of soles and this will give good protection
Boots wear very exspencive and were only worn by people who needed them, like those who work around horses Boots never became popular garb till the renaissance
