This young man, probably a student, is conservatively but tastefully dressed. The coat is not as full as those of a few years ago and is just beginning to curve back slightly--a hint of what is to come. The collar is large and soft. Only three buttons are used on the slit in the sleeve.
He wears the shortened waistcoat. His stockings are pulled up over the knee band of his breeches. Sometimes the stockings are buttoned into the breeches buttons.
The buckles of his square-toe shoes are large while the flap has become a little smaller.
His hat is the tricorne with braid trim. His hair with one roll over the ears and pulled back in a ribbon is his own natural hair.
