Memory
A British author who capitalized on the fashion of prevalent post-WW2 science fiction stories that destroyed the world from without, John Wyndham was privately educated, worked in Civil Service, and was in the Army during WW2. Before and after WW2, he had been writing short stories, but moved to novels after the war and became very successful. Two of Wyndham's novels were made into movies, "The Day of the Triffids" and "The Midwich Cuckoos", which was re-named "Village of the Damned" and had a sequel, "Children of the Damned".

The Day of the Triffids - The night the sky broke out in mysterious green flashes, all but a few people on Earth were blinded. The world went mad. Ordinary folk became animals, turning on one another in terror and desperation. Bill Masen was one of a handful who struggled to preserve a shred of civilization amidst the chaos. But chaos soon became the least of mankind's problems. Walking plants were appearing -- plants that fed on the bodies of their human prey. The triffids had arrived, and it was up to Bill Masen to stop them!

The Midwich Cuckoos - A nightmare tale of a quiet English village where nothing ever happened -- until late one September night, when every woman in town became inexplicably pregnant... Nine months later, sixty beautiful children were born... sixty unbelievable threats to the human race!

The Chrysalids - The terrifying story of a world paralyzed by genetic mutation. In a community where deviations are rooted out as abominations, David's ability to communicate by "thought shapes" is a dangerous secret. When his ability is discovered, the results are horrific.
